Lewandowski May Return To Poland Squad  as World Cup Qualifiers Loom

Poland’s new head coach, Jan Urban, says his top priority is convincing star striker Robert Lewandowski to return to the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Urban, appointed on Wednesday following the resignation of Michal Probierz in June, stressed the importance of Lewandowski’s presence as Poland look to boost their qualification hopes. The team currently sits third in their group behind Finland and the Netherlands.

“I’ll do everything to bring Robert back, because we know the situation Polish football is in,” Urban told reporters on Thursday.

“As of today, we can’t afford not to have Robert in this team.”

Lewandowski, 36, is Poland’s all-time leading scorer with 85 goals in 158 appearances. His leadership and experience are seen as crucial as the team aims to secure a spot in next year’s tournament.
