Lawmaker representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Patrick Umoh, has pledged his readiness to push for bills and motions aimed at reviving hymns and song-based talent across Nigeria.
Umoh made the pledge yesterday in Abuja during the public presentation of the second edition of the Festival of 12 Hymns, a faith-based musical event celebrating Christian hymns and spiritual songs.
The lawmaker disclosed that he is determined to ensure that hymns and spiritual songs are revived and accorded their rightful place in Nigerian society, noting that such music plays a vital role in moral development, cultural preservation, and spiritual growth.
Speaking through his senior legislative aide, Barr. Joseph Ukoh, Umoh emphasised that nurturing talents in hymns and sacred music would help redirect young people towards positive and value-driven pursuits.
He, however, commended the initiator and organisers of the Festival of 12 Hymns for their consistency and vision, describing the initiative as timely and impactful in an era when moral values are increasingly under pressure.
According to him, initiatives that promote faith, discipline, and creativity deserve encouragement and institutional backing, adding that well-meaning Nigerians should lend their support to ensure the sustainability of such programmes.
In his welcome address, the initiator and composer of the 12 Hymns, Uwem Useh, expressed gratitude to God for the gift and inspiration that enabled him to continue with what he described as a divine spiritual assignment.
Useh explained that the purpose of the gathering was to celebrate the second edition of the festival while showcasing the timeless beauty, doctrinal depth and enduring spiritual richness of Christian hymns.
He also observed that hymns have historically played a significant role in shaping Christian faith and values, adding that the festival seeks to reintroduce these sacred songs to contemporary audiences in a meaningful way.
On the need for sustainability of the project, Useh appealed to individuals and corporate organisations who feel divinely inspired to support his vision financially and otherwise, emphasising that such backing would help keep the spiritual mission alive and growing.
At the well-attended occasion, participants expressed delight as they witnessed first-hand the composition of lyrics and songs for wholesome spiritual wellbeing.
