Kwankwaso conveyed his sympathies in a statement shared on his verified X account on Monday, describing the incident as a devastating tragedy that has left the family and the people of Bauchi State in deep mourning.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, on the tragic loss of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road crash,” he wrote.
The former Kano governor said the unfortunate incident had brought immense sorrow beyond the immediate family, affecting the entire Katagum Emirate and the people of Bauchi State.
According to him, the loss has created an atmosphere of grief across the state.
“The tragedy has cast a heavy shadow of sorrow over the Katagum Emirate and the entire Bauchi State,” he stated.
Kwankwaso prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved family and extended his sympathies to the Bauchi State Government and residents of the state.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, the government, and the good people of Bauchi State at this difficult time,” he added.
Mustapha and Ummi lost their lives in a road crash that occurred along the Bauchi–Azare Road on Saturday while they were returning from Azare.
The tragic accident also prompted reactions from other prominent political figures.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed had earlier sympathised with Senator Tela and his family over the heartbreaking loss.
The governor prayed for Allah to grant eternal rest to the deceased and appealed to the family to accept the tragedy as the will of God.
He also extended his sympathy to other victims who sustained injuries in the accident and wished them a speedy recovery.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki equally mourned the deaths, describing the incident as deeply painful.
Saraki prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and asked God to grant the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to cope with the irreparable loss.
