The Korean government through its grant aid and technical cooperation agency, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nigeria has partnered with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) to train 215 ICT officials in Enugu and Lagos to accelerate digital governance in Nigeria.
KOICA Nigeria Country Director, Mr. KIM Eunsub said KOICA Nigeria, has successfully delivered the 4th and 5th State-level e-Government capacity building programs in Enugu and Lagos States, marking another key milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts.
He reiterated KOICA’s commitment to empowering Nigeria’s public sector through high-impact training and knowledge exchange.
“We are proud to collaborate with the Nigerian government in building a digitally capable workforce that can drive inclusive governance and service innovation,” said Mr. Kim.
“These trainings are a key part of our broader mission to support digital transformation across the country.”
“A total of 215 ICT-related government officials (109 in Enugu State and 106 in Lagos State) participated in intensive training sessions focused on digital governance, public sector innovation, and the effective deployment of e-government systems”.
The capacity building program has previously been delivered in Nasarawa, Cross River, and Jigawa States, with the goal of equipping civil servants across the federation with essential digital skills to support Nigeria’s e-government agenda.
This training is a critical component of the ongoing e-Government Project, implemented in partnership between KOICA and the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
The initiative plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (2020–2030), by ensuring that government at all levels is equipped to operate in a modern, connected, and data-driven environment.
During the closing ceremony of the Lagos training, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Engr. Ibilola Kasunmu, applauded the Korean Government for its consistent support in strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and human capacity.
“We deeply appreciate the Korean Government and KOICA for their strong partnership and sustained investment in Nigeria’s digital future,” said Engr. Kasunmu. “This initiative empowers our public officials to deliver smarter, faster, and more transparent services to citizens.”
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Johnson Bareyei, Director of the e-Government Department, Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, emphasized the importance of the program, saying the initiative is a strategic investment in the future of governance in Nigeria.
He said, by building the digital capacity of our civil servants at the state level, we are not only enhancing service delivery, but also laying the groundwork for a fully integrated, citizen-focused digital government,” said Mr. Bareyei.
