Kidnapped Imo Ex-lawmaker, Ogbu Regains Freedom

From Our Correspondent

Imo State Police Command has confirmed the release of Ngozi Ogbu, a former legislator who represented Okigwe Constituency in the  House of Assembly.

This was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists yesterday by the  Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye.

According to the statement, “He was released yesterday night and the command is working in synergy with other security agencies to make sure that his abductors are apprehended and brought to book.”

It would be recalled that the former lawmaker was kidnapped last week by unknown gunmen.

However,  Ogbu and  12 other captives were rescued alive when the Nigerian Army stormed the gang’s camp in Aku, Okigwe.

“The  command reassures members of the public that we are ever committed to enhancing the peace and security of every one in Imo State,” Okoye said.

It reassured members of the public of its unwavering commitment to security.

Ogbu, who once represented Okigwe State Constituency, was allegedly abducted after he visited the gang’s camp to negotiate for peace so he could bury a deceased relative without disturbance.

Notorious self-acclaimed Biafra freedom fighter, Gentle the Yahoo and his second-in-command, ‘Angel Make Up,’ had earlier released a video parading the lawmaker, threatening to kill him if the Imo State government fails to withdraw security operatives from Okigwe.

However, they were rescued alive when the Nigerian Army stormed the gang’s camp in Aku, Okigwe.
