Iran has announced three days of public holidays in Tehran to mark the funeral ceremonies of its late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to state television.

The announcement was made by IRGC commander Hassan Hassanzadeh, who is overseeing the funeral arrangements. He said the farewell ceremony and prayers for the deceased leader will take place over the weekend before the burial on Monday.

“The farewell ceremony and prayers for the martyred leader’s body will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 4th and 5th, in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, and the funeral will be held on Monday, July 6th, and Tehran province will be off for these three days,” he was quoted as saying.

According to earlier state media reports, Tehran will observe holidays on July 4 and 5, while the entire country is expected to join the observance on July 6.

The planned ceremonies are expected to draw large crowds of officials, religious leaders, and citizens, with heightened security measures anticipated across the capital during the period.
