From Henry Ibya, Makurdi

About two people  were killed with three persons kidnapped, following an attack by gunmen suspected to be Lukurawa bandits in Benue State.

A fleeing victim, who spoke with journalists yesterday in Makurdi on condition of anonymity,  said heavily armed bandits invaded Sarkin Noma community in Kadarko,in yesterday morning.

He said following the development, angry farmers  blocked  Lafia-Makurdi Highway, demanding that the  Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, visit the scene to address them.

The eyewitness told journalists that the victims called on Governor Sule, to as a matter of urgency, address what they described as humanitarian crisis that has sent many innocent parents to their early graves, leaving behind orphans and widows, urging  government to stop the killings.

Reacting to the killings, the President, United Farmers Association, Benue Valley, Chief Dennis Gbongbon, in a statement, condemned the continuous killing of farmers, particularly  along Benue/Nasarawa border, describing it as barbaric and inhuman.

He noted that despite the organisation’s official complaint to President Bola Tinubu’s office recently, authorities are yet to act, urging the federal government to take urgent measures to stop the killings.

Gbongbon appealed to Governor Sule to end the killings in the interest of justice and to allow farmers  go back to their ancestral homes to continue their business.
