Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the South-East.
The governor made the announcement during a state-wide broadcast, stating that his decision was driven by the need to “connect Enugu State to the central government” for greater development opportunities and federal collaboration.
Mbah praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and commended the administration’s policies, noting that Enugu State had already begun to benefit from the President’s supportive initiatives.
“The move is not about personal ambition but about securing a stronger partnership with the federal government to fast-track growth and development in our state,” the governor explained.
Governor Mbah’s defection was not a solitary move. He was joined by members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and several key political figures from across the state.
The development adds to a growing wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, with Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri expected to follow suit soon. Earlier in the year, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, along with their respective officials, had also crossed over to the ruling party.
