Team FCT on Monday suffered a narrow defeat to a superlative Ogun State side, missing out on a spot in the final of the handball event at the ongoing 2024 Gateway Games. The semi-final clash, held at the Alake Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, ended 29-25 in favour of the host state.

Despite a spirited performance, FCT could not overcome the firepower of Ogun, who capitalized on home support to edge through to the final.

Speaking after the match, FCT head coach, Ayo Joshua, expressed disappointment at the loss but remained optimistic ahead of the third-place fixture.

“We are not happy that we could not secure the final ticket, but that is part of the game. Now that we are fighting for bronze, we will leave no stone unturned to ensure victory against Edo in the third-place match,” Joshua said.

“Our target is to win, and come tomorrow, we are confident of recording a victory.”

FCT will battle Edo State for the bronze medal on Tuesday.
