Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the State Government, SSG.
The appointment was announced yesterday in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo.
According to the statement, the swearing in ceremony is scheduled to hold by 4pm at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.
Anabraba, a former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Akuku-Toru Constituency II, is a seasoned politician and close ally of the governor.
Before his latest appointment, he served as commissioner for housing in Fubara’s administration and was among the first set of commissioners sworn into office in October 2024.
However, his appointment was affected by the Supreme Court judgement earlier this year, which nullified the swearing in of some appointees on the grounds that they were not screened by the legally recognised Assembly.
Political observers see his elevation as a strategic move by Governor Fubara to strengthen his inner cabinet and consolidate control of his administration amid lingering political tension.
Anabraba’s appointment also came at a time when the state government is working to stabilise governance and rebuild institutions affected by the prolonged rift between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Born in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Anabraba is known for his grassroots political influence and long-standing experience in legislative and executive governance.
Governor Fubara has continued to make key appointments aimed at repositioning his administration over what he described as “effective service delivery and continuity of good governance” in Rivers State.
