FRSC Begins Easter Patrol, Deploys Personnel Nationwide

Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has commenced its 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations nationwide, with the deployment of personnel and logistics to ensure safe and hitch-free movement of road users.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed made this known yesterday in a statement by the corps’ spokesperson, Mrs Felicia Kalu, in Abuja.

Mohammed stated that the operation, scheduled to run from April 1-8, is aimed at managing the anticipated surge of vehicular and human traffic during the Easter celebrations.

He added that the initiative was necessitated by increased travel, as Nigerians join Christians worldwide to commemorate Easter.

The corps marshall said “FRSC has identified critical high-risk and high-traffic corridors for special attention.

“These routes include Lagos–Ibadan, Sagamu-Ore-Benin, Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Auchi-Okene, Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, Ilorin-Mokwa-Birnin Gwari, and Bauchi-Gombe.

“Major eastern routes such as Onitsha–Asaba–Benin, Onitsha–Owerri and Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt would also receive focused operational coverage.”

He said personnel and operational assets had been strategically deployed along  identified corridors to enhance traffic flow, ensure rapid emergency response and boost operational visibility.

Mohammed added that FRSC would intensify enforcement against traffic violations, known to cause road crashes, including speeding, dangerous driving and overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phone while driving, tyre violation, road obstruction and mix-loading of passengers with goods.

He added that special attention would also be given to seat belt compliance, use of child restraint, passengers’ manifest violation and mechanically deficient vehicles.

“Mobile courts will be deployed along major highways to ensure prompt prosecution of traffic offenders.

“The measure will facilitate immediate dispensation of justice, in line with traffic laws and promote discipline among road users,” the FRSC boss said.

He also said the corps had activated 24-hour patrol, rescue and traffic management services to support the exercise.

Mohammed said the operations would be backed by patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks and modern enforcement equipment.

He said public enlightenment campaigns would be intensified through the National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other media platforms to provide real-time travel advisories and safety information.

He assured Nigerians of the corps’ commitment to safeguard lives and property on the highways and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid risky driving and ensure that their vehicles 6 roadworthy, before embarking on journeys.

…569 Personnel, 10 Vehicles For Patrol In Enugu

Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has deployed 569 personnel for the Easter Special Patrol to ensure free flow of traffic in Enugu State.

The Sector Commander, Mr Franklin Agbakoba disclosed this in Enugu yesterday.

Agbakoba said the personnel comprised 309 regular marshals and 260 special marshals.

The sector commander said the corps had made ready, 10 vehicles to cover major road corridors within the state.

According to him, the operational vehicles deployed include seven patrol vans, one motor-bike, one tow truck and one intensive care medical ambulance.

He said the operation would last for 10 days from April 1-10 and personnel of the command would work 24 hours on shift basis.

“One positive development this Easter is that the other lane of Ugwu-Onyeama axis of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway will be opened officially for traffic today by the Minister of Works, Chief David Umahi.

“We anticipate that the latest development, which will make the two lanes functional, will eradicate traffic build-up and check accident around that axis of the expressway,” he said.

Agbakoba also urged travellers to plan their journeys on time, leave early, exercise patience on the road, as well as accommodate other road users.

He called on commercial bus drivers to desist from human and goods overload, adding that FRSC officials would not tolerate such.

“Commercial and private drivers should refrain from consuming alcohol or any intoxicant before embarking on journeys in order to arrive their destinations peacefully. 

“Everybody using the road should be careful and take things easy. Everybody will surely get to his or her destination peacefully.

“FRSC wishes residents of Enugu State and all Nigerians a safe and secured Easter festivities, celebrated with all loved ones, families and friends,” he added.
