Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has pledged the continuous support of his administration to the wives of fallen heroes to improve their standard of living.
Fintiri made the pledge in an interview with newsmen shortly after the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Yola, yesterday.
He said the widows deserve to be empowered with skills and starter packs to cater for themselves and their children.
“Their late husbands were cut off unprepared at the battle field and so the widows deserve to be empowered.
“We will open up skills acquisition centers for them; I will give them the needed support to encourage those in service that we are always with them and for them,” Fintiri said.
State Chairman of Nigeria Legion, Warrant Officer Ali Mohammed (rtd) appreciated the state government for supporting their members and wives of the fallen heroes.
He appealed to the federal government to prioritise the issue of healthcare.
“Those of them under the health insurance scheme face the challenge of out of stock when they go to health facilities.
“Most of them don’t have the money for their treatment, hence the need for government to look into their situation,” Mohammed said.
Chairperson, Nigeria Legion Wives Association, Omega Joshua appealed to the governor to fulfill the promises to enable them enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“Once you lose your husband, you are in trouble if you don’t have a helper.
“You are the one to do everything for your children. So, it is very painful,” she said.
The governor, Speaker of Adamawa State Assembly, Bathia Wisely, Chief Judge, Hafsat AbdulRahaman and security chiefs laid wreaths in honor of the fallen heroes. (NAN)
