Ex- Presidential Candidates Forum Urges Tinubu To End Insecurity, Economic Hardship

A group under the aegis of Association of Former Presidential Candidates, AFPCN, Federal Republic of Nigeria has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to  focus on good governance and end insecurity and economic hardship  in the country.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja , National Chairman of the Forum , Dr. Onwubuya Abraham Breakforth, a 2019 Presidential candidate of Justice Party appealed to President Tinubu  not to be distracted by the current political activities and focus on delivery of good governance , revamping the economy as well as delivery of dividends of democracy. 

He said ” AFPCN, is appealing to the government at all levels not to be distracted by the current political activities rather they should focus on delivery of good governance, curbing insecurity, revamping the economy and delivery of  dividends of democracy for national development”

The group also advised political parties and aspirants not to heat up the political space by utilizing the internal party mechanism and the provisions of the electoral Act in addressing grievances that may arise in the Primary Election held across the country.

The Forum further disclosed that it will work with critical stakeholders to ensure a peaceful elections that is  free , fair , transparent and  devoid of violence and intimidation. 

“AFPCN is advising all Political Parties and Aspirants not satisfied with the process of the primary to use internal party mechanism and the provisions of the Electoral  Act to address their grievance in order to avoid overheating the politics and causing national instability.

” In respect of the upcoming general election, AFPCN, will work with critical stakeholders to ensure that campaigns are issue based , devoid of violence and intimidation. Do, this will help in ensuring peaceful and credible for the collective good of our dear nation” 

Fielding question on the fear of one party state , Onwubuya dismissed fears of a possible  One Party State , arguing that Nigeria operates a constitutional democracy and a multi party system. 

He advised the opposition to always close ranks and  resolve their political  differences rather than blaming the ruling party for their inability to function .

” It is not easy to play opposition, the opposition should close ranks and perform the constitutional role of the opposition and not to blame the ruling party for their imperfections”.
