In a statement on Monday, Aliyu described the kidnapping of worshippers during a church service as a heartbreaking blow to the community and expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families.
She said the Ejiba attack was a distressing moment for all Kogites, noting that places of worship are meant to be sanctuaries of peace and not scenes of fear.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic attack and abductions at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West, Kogi State. The kidnapping of innocent worshippers in the middle of a service is a painful blow to our community, and my heart goes out to every family affected.
“This is a dark and distressing moment for Ejiba, and indeed for all Kogites. Our places of worship are sacred spaces—where we seek peace, not fear. No one deserves to have their serenity shattered in such a traumatic way.
“At this time, I extend my full sympathy and solidarity to the victims, their families, and the entire Ejiba community. You are not alone. Your pain is shared by all of us,” she said.
The former minister urged security agencies to sustain ongoing operations aimed at rescuing the abducted worshippers and restoring calm in the affected community.
She added, “I encourage our security agencies—who continue to work tirelessly across the state—to sustain their efforts and ensure the safe rescue and return of our brothers and sisters. Their commitment, courage, and sacrifices remain invaluable, and we must support them with unity, cooperation, and timely information.”
She further called on residents to stay vigilant, support one another and maintain hope as the state works through the difficult moment.
