Nigerian disc jockey and record producer, Imohiosen Patrick, professionally known as DJ Neptune, has predicted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would soon “retire” music producers.

Reacting to a similar prediction made by media personality N6, DJ Neptune narrated how he recently listened to a song and wanted to sign the “artiste” behind it, only to discover that the entire track was created using AI.

N6 had written via X, “AI is Quietly about to retire the entire music production and mastering Industry. I have seen scary tinz tonight. God help all of us in this ecosystem.”

Reacting, DJ Neptune said, “I dey tell you. Someone sent me a record to listen to some days ago and give me my feedback. After listening, I told the guy to sign the artist cos what I heard was out of this world. That’s how my guy said na AI work. E shook me o.”

AI is becoming increasingly popular in music creation, with both upcoming and established musicians, producers, and sound engineers now incorporating AI tools to improve beats, sound quality, and vocals.

As a result, the Recording Academy has updated its rules to permit music containing AI elements to be eligible for Grammy Awards, provided there is sufficient human contribution.

However, there is an intense ongoing debate among industry stakeholders who want to preserve the “human” essence of music, arguing that heavy reliance on AI raises serious questions about authenticity and authorship.
