Crisis Threatens PDP Convention – Wike

By Caleb Ishaya, Abuja

Crisis rocking  the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may cost the party its National Convention slated to hold in November,  Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has said.

Wike, who spoke at a monthly media chat yesterday said “The issue of the National convention is not the problem, the issue is the problems leading to the convention and people should understand that”.

In this vein, Wike said the “PDP has agreed to setup a committee for the South East and Ebonyi.

“Our own team is meeting by 7: pm today (yesterday) and you will hear what we have to say. We are not contesting the venue of the convention, what we are saying is that the things leading to the convention if they are not well taken care of, there are likelihood that the convention will not hold”, he said.

The Minister explained that some people say because he was quarreling with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that is why “I said the convention will not hold in Ibadan.  “The venue is not the subject matter. The subject matter is have you done what you are supposed to do before holding that convention? So you now go and turn it that I said Ibadan will not hold the convention, no, that is not correct”.

“We have held conventions in different venues before, we have held conventions in Port Harcourt and Abuja, so the party can decide whether to hold it in Sokoto or Borno but what we are saying is before you get to the convention, have you done what you are supposed to do?

“If you have not done it, it may be a set back and the PDP from what I learnt have taken some steps to see that the issues are being resolved and if resolved to the satisfaction of the complaint, no problem but if they are not of course they will take action”, Wike emphasised.

Wike also emphasized that he will work and deliver President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid in 2027. He said, that it doesn’t matter whether the PDP zoned the Presidential candidate to the South, will not change his decision to support President Tinubu because he has character and principle.

The FCT Minister also kicked against fielding the Labour Party Presidential candidate in 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi as the opposition PDP candidate in 2027 because it will further destroy the PDP.  Wike took a swipe at Atiku Abubakar the former Vice President and the PDP candidate in 2019, 2023 and has continued to contest for tickets since 2007 after fighting his boss former President Obasanjo. Wike never spared Obasanjo as he said , some people attempted to contest for a third term in office when he ( Wike ) tried to laugh at Peter Obi’s four year promise to serve as President.

AljazirahNigeria reports that Wike clearly stated that he loves what happened in Rivers State LGA polls results and are afraid that the APC will take over the State in the Presidential election come 2027 and that he will never run for the Presidency because he has promised to deliver his boss for a second term in office.
