Court Restrains Delta Gov, Others Over Ekpan Land Dispute

FROM ONYEKACHUKWU, WARRI

Delta State High Court sitting in Ekpan Judicial Division, Uvwie Local Government Area, has restrained Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the attorney-general from taking further actions over a disputed land in Ekpan.

The court also restrained Dr Kennedy Omonuwa, representing the late Vincent Onome Omonuwa’s family.

The order followed a motion ex-parte filed by C.U Umode on behalf of Chief Mathias Ote and Samuel Akpomejeme, for themselves and members of Akpomejeme family of Ekpan, in suit no: HCE/26/2025 against the defendants.

Presiding over the matter on August 7, Justice Michael Obi granted two interim injunctions restraining the defendants, their agents, servants, workmen or contractors from tampering with, renovating or developing the Akpomejeme family house on Egbesaba land along Refinery Road, opposite the Nigerian Navy, pending the hearing of the motion on notice.

“Accordingly, prayers one and two on the motion paper are granted in view of the said urgency deposed to in the affidavit of urgency. The motion on notice is hereby fixed for August 18,” the judge ruled.

In a statement on Sunday, Umode alleged that workers suspected to be government contractors were seen working on the disputed land on Saturday, August 9.

He said: “We will continue to pray the court to address the oppression, disobedience to court order and injustice by government officials and anyone whose hands are on the said land.”
