Benue State Police Command foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued a victim unhurt in the early hours of yesterday.
The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, in a statement, said the incident occurred at about 3am along Tiortu area, where Akume Geoffrey was abducted by armed men.
The statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, yesterday in Makurdi, said police operatives swiftly responded to a distress call and rescued the victim, who was abandoned by the fleeing kidnappers.
CP Emenari disclosed that the victim was subsequently taken to Abinse Police Station, where he was later reunited with his family.
He commended the operatives swift response, courage and professionalism.
He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protect lives and property, especially during the festive season.
The commissioner, who said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, urged members of the public to remain vigilant, as well as promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through approved emergency channels.
