The third batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa has arrived in Lagos following weeks of anti-immigration protests and rising xenophobic tensions in the country.

The evacuees were airlifted by Air Peace, with the aircraft touching down at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, at approximately 10:54 a.m. on Tuesday.

The latest returnees are part of the Federal Government’s ongoing evacuation exercise aimed at bringing home Nigerians who opted to leave South Africa after a wave of anti-immigration demonstrations heightened fears over their safety.

The evacuation follows sustained protests in parts of South Africa, where undocumented foreign nationals have come under increased pressure amid growing calls for stricter immigration enforcement.

Nigerian authorities have continued to coordinate with relevant agencies and diplomatic officials to facilitate the voluntary return of citizens affected by the unrest.

Officials are expected to receive the evacuees and provide the necessary support and documentation upon their arrival.

The Federal Government has maintained that it will continue to monitor the situation in South Africa while ensuring that Nigerians who wish to return home are safely evacuated.

The arrival of the third batch marks another phase in the ongoing repatriation exercise as authorities work to assist more Nigerians impacted by the tensions.
