House Member, representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Terseer Ugbor has raised the alarm over escalating violence in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, calling for immediate measures to stop the attacks.

Ugbor in a statement yesterday, condemned the recent assaults by suspected herdsmen and bandits, which have left scores dead, thousands displaced, and entire villages terrorised.

He described the situation as a “tragic cycle of violence” that had plagued border communities for over 15 years, with little progress in resettling victims or rebuilding shattered livelihoods.

The lawmaker warned that the Turan and Ikyurav-ya axis, which borders Cameroon and Taraba State, was fast becoming a haven for criminal groups due to its vast terrain and mineral-rich land.

To address the crisis, Ugbor recommended the activation of the Border Patrol Unit, development of the Cameroon border into an Export Processing Zone, and demarcation of boundaries between Benue and Taraba States.

He also called for resettlement of displaced persons, restoration of farmlands, and a comprehensive mapping of mineral resources, with a strict ban on illegal mining.

The lawmaker emphasised that implementing these measures would bring lasting peace, strengthen security, and guarantee sustainable development for future generations.

Ugbor reaffirmed his dedication to supporting community policing and relief efforts, citing his donations of motorcycles, kits, and a temporary border police station.

He also highlighted recent approvals for key institutions in the constituency, including a National Open University Study Centre, Forestry Research Centre, Technology Incubation Centre, Infectious Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, and a Federal Medical Centre.

Ugbor, who described the initiatives a silent revolution in federal constituency, expressed confidence that the region if devoid of crisis will soon emerge as a hub for research, trade, and environmental conservation.

The lawmaker equally extends condolence to families affected by the violence, pledging to continue pressing for peace and security of lives and property in Benue state.
