Arsenal have finally been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
Mikel Arteta’s side sealed the title following years of heartbreak and near misses, ending a run of three consecutive second-place finishes to reclaim English football’s biggest prize.
The Gunners had led the table for most of the campaign, although their title challenge came under serious pressure in April when City closed the gap. A 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium appeared to tilt the race in Pep Guardiola’s favour, but Arsenal responded brilliantly, showing resilience and consistency to hold on and secure the crown.
It marks Arsenal’s first league triumph since the historic 2003/04 “Invincibles” season under Arsène Wenger, when the north London club went unbeaten throughout the entire Premier League campaign with 26 wins and 12 draws.
The title also ends a six-year trophy drought for Arsenal and represents Arteta’s second major honour as manager of the club.
There could still be more success ahead for the Gunners this season as they prepare for the UEFA Champions League final against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.
Arsenal will officially lift the Premier League trophy after their final game of the season against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, bringing a memorable campaign to a fitting conclusion
