Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, after she was abducted by bandits alongside her husband several weeks ago.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed the development on Monday, explaining that the rescue was achieved through intensified search-and-rescue operations carried out by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to him, sustained offensive actions against the criminal group forced the bandits into contact with advancing troops at Tunga Village, resulting in the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.
He revealed that during the confrontation, the abductors shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing the area as military pressure intensified.
Following her recovery, she was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.
Major General Uba stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain committed to ensuring her complete recovery and are providing the necessary support to her family during the period.
He further assured that military operations would continue to pursue and neutralise those responsible for the abduction, while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist and bandit activities in affected communities across Katsina State and other parts of the country.
