Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has returned Dr Aliyu Bello as chairman through consensus at its state congress in Lafia.

Bello, who previously served as chairman, was affirmed alongside about 80% of the state working committee for another term.

Speaking after his affirmation yesterday, Bello thanked members for the confidence reposed in his leadership.

He said the new executive would work with all party organs, including local government officials across the state’s 13 councils.

“We are going to be fair and just to everybody who wishes to aspire for any position on the platform of our party.

“We cannot thank the governor enough for all he has done for us. We assure you of our loyalty to your government and the party”, he said.

Gov. Abdullahi Sule congratulated the executives and commended stakeholders for conducting what he described as a hitch-free consensus process.

“I want to congratulate you today. It looks like almost 80% of you have come back.

“The 20% who did not return are still in the party and will continue to enjoy all rights and privileges”, he said.

He added that other positions in government remained available, assuring those not re-elected that they were not excluded.

Sule also welcomed new defectors to the party, including Sen. Philip Gyunka and David Ombugadu, announcing a special reception in their honour.

“Whatever has happened in the past has happened. Let it go and allow the future to come in.

“With the way we are going, there is no more opposition in Nasarawa State”, he said.
