Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation, Obi Aguocha has called for prayers over the prolonged detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the need for peace in the South East.

Aguocha, who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State, expressed optimism about Kanu’s imminent release and relative peace in the South East.

Noting that the struggle and calls for Kanu’s freedom had not been in vain, the lawmaker urged Nigerians, especially those in the South East to remain calm, hopeful and prayerful.

While appealing to all peace-loving Nigerians for prayers, he stated that a specific time should be dedicated for prayer and divine intervention next Sunday, July 13.

“On this day, sacrifice only 20 minutes of your time; wherever you are in the world. In the comfort of your personal space, pause and pray for the  release of Kanu, peace in the South East region and the entire Nigeria,” Auguocha said.

He stated that Kanu’s release would lead to peace and stability in the region, contrary to the fear expressed in some quarters.

Augocha, who described the IPOB leader as his brother and constituent, recalled how he had met with former President Muhammadu Buhari, leadership of the National Assembly and critical members of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, National Security Adviser, director-general of the Department of State Service, DSS, and chief of staff to the president on how he could be released through a negotiated political solution.

He noted that the issue is not beyond what God can handle if there is prayer and c aommitment.
