Less than 24 hours after formally unveiling the Accord Party as his new political platform, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared the sole candidate for the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the August 2026 election.
The National Screening Committee of the Accord Party confirmed the development on Wednesday, stating that Governor Adeleke fulfilled every eligibility criterion and faced no rival aspirants.
In an official statement signed by the Chairman of the Screening Committee and National Organising Secretary, Mr Ibe Thankgod, the party described Adeleke as a “worthy gubernatorial aspirant” who met all nomination requirements with distinction.
The certificate of clearance was physically presented to the governor by Ibe Thankgod during a brief ceremony held at the Government House in Osogbo.
Receiving the document, Governor Adeleke expressed profound gratitude to the committee and the national leadership of the Accord Party, pledging total commitment to the party’s success.
“I am ready for the primary, and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” Adeleke declared.
The swift clearance effectively turns the yet-to-be-scheduled Accord Party primary into a coronation exercise, guaranteeing Adeleke the party’s flag as he seeks a second term in office.
The governor had only publicly announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party on Tuesday evening, December 9, after quietly resigning his PDP membership on December 2, 2025.
