Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti has flagged off the construction of the 11.27 kilometres Mbala-Umuaku-Ngodo road in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, while flagging off the road project, said Umunneochi occupies a unique place in the geography and socio-economic evolution of Abia State in particular, and the South-East in general.
Otti announced that Leru-Lekwesi-Lokpanta-Lokpaukwu road, which the people had requested his administration to fix, had already been earmarked for reconstruction by his administration.
Governor Otti also announced that his administration planned to establish a multi-billion naira agro-processing facility in the local government area.
“I am glad to inform this August gathering that Umunneochi has been selected as one of the three locations where government will site a multi-billion naira agro industrial processing facility and this will happen very shortly.
“Structured to radically transform the agricultural ecosystem in the state, the facility shall integrate production, aggregation and processing of agro commodities for local consumption and export,” he said.
Also speaking, the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Amobi Ogah, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, described the road project as a unifying factor for Umunneochi people.
They thanked the governor for what he is doing in the state and appealed to him to assist in fixing Nmang Bridge in the local government area.
