In order to cushion the pains of the parents of the abducted school children in Papiri community in Agwara Local Government Area, Governor Umar Bago has vowed to offer them political appointments.
Bago stated this yesterday while swearing in commissioners and chairmen of the 25 local government councils and their vice, and board members at the Government House, Minna.
It would be recalled that over 300 students and teachers of St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri were abducted by gunmen.
Governor Bago, however, assured that the remaining children and teachers will be rescued soon and be reunited with their families. “I will appoint people from Papiri into various positions”.
After observing some minutes silence, Bago thanked God that Niger is united.
The governor recalled that three weeks ago, “we woke up with the terrifying news of the abduction of our children and teachers, thank God we have rescued 100 and we hope that the remaining are rescued and reunited with their families soon.”
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Usman Abubakar, said the emergence of the appointees and elected chairmen are as a result of their capabilities and pedigree.
He urged them to settle down quickly and deliver their mandate to the people, especially in strengthening security, improving education and healthcare.
They were sworn in by the Chief Judge, Halima Abdulmalik, who was represented by Justice Memuna Abubakar.
