Senator , representing Abia South in the National Assembly who recently defected to the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC, Sen Enyinnaya Abaribe , former Imo State governor and deputy speaker , Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Bar Amanda Pam were among those who made the list of the 22 Man Committee to review the Constitution of the African Democratic Congress, ADC
Other members of the committee , include former chairman of ADC, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, Sen. Orker Jev, Prof Lawal Salihu, Prof Mohammed Sani Bello among others
The Committee is expected to submit their report to the National Working Committee, NWC, in 30 days .
Inaugurating the Committee, yesterday at the party’s National Secretariat, National Chairman, Sen. David Mark charged the committee members to bequeath to the party a near perfect constitution that aligns with the best global democratic practice which would be unanimously accepted as a working document that will regulate the activities of the party.
“Today is a significant milestone in the continuous growth and institutional strengthening of the African Democratic Congress ,ADC. The inauguration of the ADC Constitution Review Committee underscores our collective resolve to build a party founded on strong democratic values, internal cohesion, and effective governance.
“A party’s constitution is its moral compass and legal backbone. It defines our ideology, guides our conduct, regulates our internal processes, and safeguards internal democracy. As our party continues to expand in reach and responsibility, it is both necessary and timely to review our constitution to ensure that it reflects present realities, anticipates future challenges, and aligns with global best practices in democratic party administration.
“This exercise is not about changing principles; it is about strengthening them. It is about ensuring clarity, fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability in our structures and processes. It is about creating a framework that empowers our members, promotes unity, resolves disputes fairly, and positions the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership.
“Members of this committee have been carefully selected based on experience, integrity, and commitment to the ideals of our party. You carry a great responsibility. I urge you to approach this assignment with open minds, broad consultations, and an unwavering commitment to the collective interest of the ADC.
“You must listen to the voices of party members at all levels, respect our founding values, and produce a constitution that strengthens internal democracy, enhances discipline, and guarantees transparency in party affairs.
“On behalf of the National Working Committee and the entire ADC family, I hereby formally inaugurate the ADC Constitution Review Committee and charge you to discharge this responsibility with diligence, patriotism, and wisdom”
Speaking, Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, Etigwe Uwa , SAN, promised to deliver on its assignment.
“We would work with dispatch realizing the urgency and would utilize physical and vitual means to achieve our ends. We would seek inputs from as many members as we can and we would do our best to produce a near ideal autochthonous and workable constitution that enjoys the buy-in and acceptance across the party and across our country.
“We solicit your support and pledge not to fail the party. Our task commences today and we would pursue it with all expedition unction and determination”.
