The upcoming bye-election in Enugu State is generating interest, with many watching to see how the political landscape will unfold. As Nsukka concerned citizens, we appeal to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to consider a candidate from the family of late Sen. Okey Ezea, from Igboeze South local government area. Ezea’s family candidacy promotes transparency, equity, and justice in the state’s politics.
The late Senator Okey Ezea contributed significantly to Enugu North’s political history, fostering communal peace, security, and sponsoring bills to develop the region. Rewarding the family with the senatorial slot is a fitting tribute, with many believing they will follow in his footsteps.
We urge the governor to consider the Ezea family’s decades-long contribution to Enugu North’s politics and their support base. Granting them the slot would honor Senator Okey Ezea’s legacy and win the hearts of Igbo-Nsukka people, bolstering support for the renewed hope agenda in 2027.
Ezea’s candidacy sparks discussion about factors shaping the governor’s decision, given their neutral political background. With Enugu North’s 40% voting strength, the senatorial seat is crucial, shaping the state’s future, including 2031 succession plans.
Enugu state politics considers rotational representation and wider interests, influencing the governor’s decision. Zoning, party loyalty, and individual merit are likely considerations. The outcome will have far-reaching implications for Enugu State politics.
