Labour Party, LP, in Kaduna State has affirmed its support for the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure and warned members of the party against anti-party activities capable of causing chaos.
The party alleged that some “selfish individuals and a suspended member of the party are trying everything possible to pocket LP using their influence.”
The party, therefore, urged supporters to remain committed to LP’s ideals and leadership, ahead of the forthcoming local government election in Kaduna State.
In a statement signed by its State Chairman, his Deputy, Secretary and Chairman of Chikun Local Government Area, Auwal Tafoki, Bulus Maisamari, Peter Hassan and Yerima Abraham, respectively, the party urged the Abia State governor, Alex Otti to use his office to unite the people.
Tafoki stressed that the 23 local government LP chairmen in Kaduna State are strongly behind Barrister Abure who they believe has what it takes to move the party forward and deliver the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian people in the 2027 general elections.
“The state chairman alongside the 23 local government chairmen on August 29, passed a vote of confidence on Abure. This affirmation is to encourage them to remain steadfast in the course of discharging their constitutional responsibilities and not to be carried away by some unscrupulous elements who are on a mission to destroy Labour Party in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
“For the records, it is important to know that Labour Party does not have any faction in Kaduna State. We are one family, united under an indivisible body, resolute and determined to make a mark in the state, even as youths and the elderly believe in our party’s ideology to birth a new Nigeria, using His Excellency, Dr Peter Obi.
“Meanwhile, we cannot claim ignorant of the fact that some selfish individuals who contested elections under the party in 2023 are trying everything possible to pocket the party in Kaduna State.
“At the moment, Labour Party is primarily focusing on the forthcoming local government election, slated for October. We have sent the names of our candidates to the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, Kad-SIECOM, and we are optimistic of winning major seats in the elections, therefore distraction is not an option.
“We are calling on Governor Otti to use his office to unite the party. By so doing, Labour Party can become a force to reckon with, not only in Kaduna State, but the entire nation at large,” the statement added.
