Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Fadeyi was one of several federal lawmakers who had earlier left the PDP for the APC but could not secure the APC senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC ticket for Osun Central was awarded to Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), a decision that triggered protests from some of Senator Fadeyi’s supporters who insisted that the ticket should be given to the incumbent senator.
While other defected PDP lawmakers such as Senator Francis Fadahunsi and House of Representatives members Wole Oke, Taofeek Ajilesoro, and Sanya Omirin successfully obtained the APC tickets to seek re-election, Fadeyi was not given the opportunity.
In his resignation letter, the senator explained that his exit from the APC was due to the party’s failure to respect an earlier agreement that he would be selected as the consensus candidate for the Osun Central senatorial seat.
He added that he had joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Tinubu in his home state, relying on firm assurances that he would be granted the party’s nomination.
“I believed those understandings would be honoured and that the party would uphold the principles of fairness, equity, mutual respect and internal democracy,” he said.
The senator claimed that the candidate selection process deviated from the agreed consensus method and lacked transparency, resulting in his loss of confidence in the Osun State leadership of the party.
He also expressed regret that other lawmakers who defected alongside him received return tickets while he was denied the chance to contest for another term.
Even after leaving the APC, Fadeyi made it clear that his commitment to President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda has not changed.
“I wish to state unequivocally that I remain one hundred per cent committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supportive of the Renewed Hope Agenda. My decision is not in opposition to the President, his administration or his vision for Nigeria,” he said.
According to him, the move was driven by the necessity to defend democratic values and safeguard the political mandate given to him by the people of Osun Central Senatorial District.
