Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the disbursement of N2.11 billion for the payment of gratuities and death benefits to 772 beneficiaries, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of retired civil servants and the families of deceased government workers.
The fund will cater to retired state and contract staff, former local government employees, retirees from Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), as well as families entitled to death benefits following the demise of public servants.
The approval was announced by the Head of Service, Malami Shakari, mni, in a statement signed by the Director of Administration, Rashidu Muhammad Bala, FCIA, FCIHRSM, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the governor authorised the release of N2,110,403,965.83 to settle gratuities and death benefits that accumulated between September 16, 2025, and January 15, 2026.
The Head of Service explained that the approval aligns with the administration’s policy of ensuring prompt payment of retirement entitlements to deserving beneficiaries.
“The approval is in line with the administration’s commitment to the prompt payment of gratuities and other retirement benefits,” the statement noted.
The breakdown of beneficiaries includes retired officers in the state civil service, contract employees who have completed their service, former local government workers, retirees from Local Government Education Authorities, and the next of kin of deceased public servants entitled to death benefits.
Shakari stated that the latest approval reflects Governor Idris’ determination to place workers and retirees at the centre of his administration’s welfare agenda.
He noted that timely payment of retirement benefits remains one of the priorities of the state government, aimed at easing the financial burden on retirees who devoted years of service to the state.
“The approval underscores Governor Idris’ commitment to improving the welfare of workers, retirees, and the families of deceased public servants by ensuring the timely settlement of their entitlements,” the statement added.
The government described the payment as part of ongoing efforts to clear outstanding gratuities and retirement obligations inherited over the years while providing much-needed financial relief to retirees and bereaved families.
Officials also expressed optimism that the latest disbursement would further strengthen confidence among serving civil servants that their retirement benefits would be paid without unnecessary delays.
The Kebbi State Government has consistently maintained that improving workers’ welfare remains a key component of its governance agenda, with pension and gratuity payments receiving increased attention since the beginning of the current administration.
The latest approval is expected to significantly reduce the backlog of unpaid retirement benefits while supporting beneficiaries in meeting their financial obligations after years of public service.
