The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced the passing of his mother, Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour.
The politician disclosed the sad development on Monday through a statement shared on his verified X account.
The statement, signed on behalf of the Rhodes-Vivour family by Olawale Rhodes-Vivour, announced her death with gratitude for what it described as a life of love, service and fulfilment.
According to the family, the late Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, née Waboso, was a loving wife, caring mother and devoted grandmother whose life positively impacted everyone who came in contact with her.
The statement read, “With sadness in our hearts and gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the call to glory of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso). A loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. The epitome of love.”
The family described her as a woman whose kindness, compassion and unwavering commitment to her family would remain unforgettable.
They expressed gratitude for the time they shared with her and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.
“She will be sorely missed. May her beautiful soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
While announcing her passing, the family noted that funeral arrangements would be communicated to the public at a later date.
No further details were provided regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
The announcement has since attracted condolences from political associates, supporters and members of the public, many of whom have taken to social media to sympathise with Rhodes-Vivour and his family during the difficult period.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, where he emerged as one of the leading challengers in the contest.
Following political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, he joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and subsequently secured the party’s governorship ticket in May 2026.
He is expected to fly the ADC flag in the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
The death of his mother comes as political activities continue to gather momentum across the country ahead of the next election cycle.
The Rhodes-Vivour family said additional information regarding burial arrangements and memorial activities would be released in due course.
