The Yoruba film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor and gospel minister Taiwo Adeshina, widely recognised by his popular screen name, Elegbeje Ado.

Adeshina reportedly died on Monday, June 29, 2026, after battling a brief illness. He was 66 years old.

The news of his passing was confirmed by filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi, triggering an outpouring of condolences from fellow actors, filmmakers, fans and admirers who celebrated his remarkable contributions to the Yoruba movie industry.

Renowned for his exceptional command of the Yoruba language and his captivating performances in epic, historical and traditional films, Adeshina earned widespread admiration for bringing culturally rich characters to life on screen.

His stage name, Elegbeje Ado, was derived from one of the iconic roles that established him as a prominent figure in Yoruba cinema during the early years of his acting career.
