Global Leaders Offer Support After Deadly Venezuela Earthquakes

The United States and several countries across Latin America and Europe have expressed solidarity with Venezuela and pledged humanitarian assistance following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the country, leaving at least 32 people dead and more than 700 injured.

The powerful earthquakes, which measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, caused widespread destruction, prompting international offers of support as rescue and recovery operations continue.

US Pledges Immediate Assistance

US President Donald Trump described the disaster as devastating and assured Venezuela of American support.

“The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“The U.S.A. stands ready, willing, and able to help. I have instructed all agencies of our government to get ready to move quickly. We will be there for our new and great friends,” he added.

Mexico Offers Rescue and Medical Personnel

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that her government had begun preparations to provide assistance.

She revealed that Venezuelan authorities had requested specialised rescue and medical teams.

“For the time being, they have asked us for support in the form of specialist rescue and medical personnel. Mexico always stands in solidarity and always will,” she wrote on X.

El Salvador Deploys Rescue Teams

President Nayib Bukele disclosed that El Salvador had assembled a significant emergency response package.

According to him, “300 rescuers and paramedics, along with 50 tons of equipment, medicines, and basic supplies, are ready to leave for Caracas.”

Brazil Expresses Support

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he received news of the disaster with concern and sadness.

“I learned, with great concern and dismay, of the impact of the earthquake that struck Venezuela,” Lula stated.

He reaffirmed Brazil’s willingness to assist the Venezuelan government in recovery efforts and praised the resilience of the Venezuelan people.

Cuba Mobilises Medical Workers

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez extended condolences to Venezuela and confirmed that Cuban medical personnel already in the country had been mobilised to assist victims.

“I express my deepest condolences and solidarity to the government and brother people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake,” he said.

“Cuban health workers there are fully mobilized and providing medical services to the affected population.”

Argentina Offers Humanitarian Assistance

Argentina’s government said it was closely monitoring developments and was prepared to provide support through international humanitarian channels.

“The Argentine Republic is closely following the evolution of the situation and expresses its readiness to collaborate with whatever humanitarian assistance may be required,” a government statement said.

President Javier Milei also extended solidarity to the Venezuelan people despite political differences between both governments.

Uruguay Reaffirms Solidarity

Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi expressed his country’s support for Venezuela and indicated a willingness to provide assistance if requested.

“Uruguay expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan authorities and people. We are closely following the evolution of the situation and reiterate our willingness to collaborate in whatever the Venezuelan government deems necessary,” he said.

Chile Offers Rescue Assistance

Chile’s Foreign Ministry expressed sympathy over the tragedy and indicated readiness to provide humanitarian and rescue support.

“The Chilean government deplores this tragedy and stands ready to provide humanitarian and rescue assistance should it be required,” the ministry stated.

Ecuador Prioritises Humanitarian Response

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced that humanitarian aid had already been approved for dispatch.

“I have ordered the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to respond to this emergency,” he said.

“Despite enormous differences, humanity must always guide a leader’s actions.”

Costa Rica Sends Message of Support

Costa Rica’s government expressed compassion for the victims and praised emergency workers involved in rescue efforts.

“Costa Rica wholeheartedly embraces the Venezuelan people at this time of grief following the earthquake that shook their country,” the presidency stated.

“Our solidarity lies with every affected family and with those who are working today to save lives and rebuild hope. You are not alone.”

Dominican Republic Readies Emergency Teams

Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader announced that specialised emergency response teams had been placed on standby to support Venezuelan authorities if needed.

Spain Offers Full Support

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also extended condolences and solidarity to the Venezuelan people.

“We offer our full support to the Venezuelan people following tonight’s devastating earthquakes,” Sánchez said.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

Global Support Grows

The widespread international response highlights growing concern over the scale of the disaster, which has caused significant loss of life, injuries, and extensive damage to infrastructure across Venezuela.

As rescue operations continue, governments across the Americas and Europe have indicated their readiness to provide humanitarian aid, medical assistance, rescue personnel and emergency supplies to support recovery efforts in the affected areas.
