FCT: Tinubu Commissions Water Supply Network To Karu And It’s Environs

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has commissioned a massive water supply network project aimed at serving residents of Karu township and it’s environs.

Tinubu who was represented by the Vice President,Kashim Shetima during the commissioning ceremony of the water supply project on Monday in Karu, Abuja explained that the essential project was birthed to breath life into a fundamental human right which has eluded the community for too long, adding that era of neglecting development in satellite towns is over.

According to the President: “Just about a year ago, when we commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, I stood before the nation and gave a strict directive. I said the metropolitan loops must not end in the elite districts. They must stretch. They must expand into our satellite towns where the heartbeat of Abuja’s working-class population truly resides.

We are here not just to cut a ribbon, but to breathe life into a fundamental human right that has eluded this bustling community of far too long. Today, we declare that the era of neglect for our satellite towns is officially oprogres

When the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, brought the proposal for the Karu Water Supply Project, we did not hesitate. We knew that water is life, and denying our people clean water is denying them health, dignity, and economic progress.

“To show our unwavering commitment, we did not allow the traditional shackles of bureaucratic delay to obstruct its funding. Because we paid on time, the contractors, CGC Nigeria Limited, worked on time. And today, ahead of schedule, we are commissioning over 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks bringing treated, safe, and potable water directly to the doorsteps of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, and surrounding communities.

The President praised the efforts of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, describing him as the “Mr Project” of his administration, saying leadership is measured by tangible, verifiable impact on the lives of ordinary citizens not on eloquence of television commentary or bitterness of empty rhetoric.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, what we are witnessing in the FCT today—across transport, healthcare, education, housing, roads, and now massive water infrastructure—is a testament to what happens when vision meets executive capacity. Thank you, “Mr Project”, for your leadership.

In his speech during the commissioning, FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike revealed that the project was as result of Memorandum of Understanding, MOU signed with contractors CGC Nigeria Limited during President Tinubu’s visit to Beijin.

Wike gives thanks to the prompt budgetary releases authorized by the President which paved way for the completion of the extensive network in less than twelve months, noting that the delivery of clean water has effectively elevated Karu’s status to that of a modern city.

He also disclosed that the FCT Administration will soon return to the area to flag off the comprehensive reconstruction of all internal roads within Karu, while the Bwari Satellite Town water supply project is also scheduled for formal commissioning next month, in July 2026.
