A teenager, Master Chimkamnayo Olisaemeka, who was rescued from alleged abuse by his guardians in 2022 through the intervention of the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, is preparing to begin his university education after years of rehabilitation and support.

Speaking in Awka on Wednesday, Mrs. Soludo revealed that the young boy has remained under her care since his rescue, receiving medical treatment, educational assistance, mentorship, and other forms of support aimed at helping him rebuild his life.

She recalled that Chimkamnayo’s case attracted widespread public attention four years ago after details of the abuse he suffered surfaced, prompting concern from many Nigerians.

According to her, the teenager’s transformation from a vulnerable child into a university-bound young man demonstrates the impact of consistent care, protection, and encouragement.

“Four years ago, precisely in July 2022, Chimkamnayo Olisaemeka’s story broke the hearts of many Ndi Anambra. Rescued from a life of severe abuse and neglect from his uncle and wife, he arrived with wounds that went far beyond the physical. At the time, many saw a hurting child. Today, we see a resilient young man standing on the threshold of a brighter future.

“Since his rescue, Chimkamnayo has remained under our care, receiving medical attention, educational support, guidance, and the opportunity to rediscover his worth. What once seemed like a story defined by pain has become a powerful testimony of healing, hope, and transformation. Today, he is preparing to enter the university, and I am delighted to reaffirm my commitment to supporting his education to whatever level he chooses to attain.”

Mrs. Soludo noted that Chimkamnayo’s experience highlights the fact that a child’s future should not be determined by traumatic experiences or abuse.

She stressed that with proper intervention, emotional support, and opportunities, vulnerable children can recover from hardship and achieve their aspirations.

“Perhaps the greatest lesson from Chimkamnayo’s journey is that abuse does not have to define a child’s destiny. With love, protection, encouragement, and the right support system, children can heal from trauma, reclaim their confidence, and pursue their dreams. Every child deserves that chance.”

The First Lady also disclosed that the teenager has expressed a desire to reconnect with his biological parents. She said the state government respects his decision and understands the importance of family relationships.

However, she assured that authorities would continue to prioritise his welfare and closely monitor his progress while ensuring he remains protected.

“As Chimkamnayo has expressed a desire to reunite with his parents, we respect his wishes and recognise the importance of family. However, his welfare remains paramount. While he reconnects with his family, he will continue to be closely monitored and will remain under the care, protection, and support of the Anambra State Government.

“His journey reminds us that when society refuses to give up on a child, that child can rise above adversity and become a symbol of hope for others. Chimkamnayo’s story is not just about survival; it is about triumph. And for every child facing hardship today, may it serve as a reminder that your circumstances do not determine your future.”
