Gunmen Kill Nine in Kaduna Border Community

No fewer than nine people have been confirmed dead, while 11 others sustained injuries following a deadly attack on Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the community located along the Kaduna–Plateau border, reigniting concerns over persistent insecurity in the region.

According to a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, armed attackers stormed the community in the early hours of the day and opened fire on residents.

Yonkpa explained that the majority of residents in the affected settlement are members of the Irigwe ethnic group, whose ancestral roots trace back to Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims killed during the attack were identified as Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.

In addition to the fatalities, 11 residents suffered varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Reacting to the incident, the National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, condemned the killings and described the attack as a tragic development.

Auta called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

He expressed concern over the recurring attacks targeting communities in the area and urged security authorities to strengthen surveillance and protection measures to safeguard residents.

According to him, the latest assault has deepened fears among local communities and highlighted the urgent need for stronger intervention from government and security agencies.

He further appealed to federal, state and local authorities to take immediate steps to prevent future attacks, restore confidence among residents and address the root causes of the recurring violence.

The attack has left the Angwan Magaji community in mourning, with residents calling for swift action to halt the cycle of bloodshed affecting communities along the Kaduna–Plateau border corridor.
