ABA Storms Minna With Basketball Training, Coaches’ Workshop

Following the success recorded in the first edition of Coaching Clinic for Academies Coaches in Abuja, the Amateur Basketball Academies, ABA, has taken the train to Minna, Niger State by organizing a one-day “Training and Trainer’s clinic for 20 Academies Coaches.

Amateur Basketball Academies Kayode Adeniyi on Monday in Abuja reveals that, the clinic, which was also attended by some Basketball grassroots Coaches at Avant Garde hotel and 123 Basketball Gymnasium saw the participats went through the concept of the role of Academies Coaches in the life of the young players. 

Declaring the clinic open, President and founder of the Amateur Basketball Academies, ABA, Professor Aliyu Abubakar urged the coaches to embrace the new initiative aimed at transforming the game of basketball Nationwide.

Aliyu Abubakar, who is also a Deputy Comptroller in the Nigeria Customs Service, appreciated individual, institution, and stakeholder who 

 supported the vision and honored the invitation to the Clinic.

“Today is not merely about basketball. Today is about building the future. Today is about investing in human capacity, empowering our youths, strengthening our coaches, and laying the foundation for a new generation of basketball excellence in Nigeria.

Across the world, nations that dominate basketball today did not arrive there by accident. They invested heavily in grassroots development, coaches education, structured training systems, athlete mentorship and long-term developmental programs.” DC Abubakar said.

ABA President said the “Training and Trainer’s Clinic” is not simply an event but a movement and commitment by Amateur Basketball Academies to create a sustainable pathway from raw talent to refined excellence.

” Recently, the vision of ABA and its grassroots development initiative received recognition from basketball stakeholders and sports administrators during the unveiling of the ABA developmental structure and proposed league system in Abuja.

At ABA, we strongly believe that the future of Nigerian basketball begins at the grassroots level. We believe every community court can produce champions. We believe every trainer can become a transformational leader. We believe every child deserves an opportunity to dream through sports.” Abubakar concluded.

Professor Aliyu Abubakar reminded the gathering that the recent unveiling of the ABA League further reflects the determination to establish organized grassroots competitions and developmental opportunities for young athletes nationwide. 

Four resource persons which include Coach Alex Ujoh, Coach Adeka Daudu, Coach Emmanuel Odah and Coach Oyekan took the coaches on technical and tactical basketball instruction, player development, physical conditioning, injury prevention, sports psychology, refereeing and officiating, leadership development, and athlete mentorship.

Highlight of the event was training season with over 150 young and aspiring basketball players who came to the Gymnasium to receive training from the resource persons.
