Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Cotonou to represent Bola Tinubu at the inauguration ceremony of Romuald Wadagni.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.
According to Nkwocha, the inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 24, at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou, where leaders from different African countries and other parts of the world are expected to attend.
He explained that Vice President Shettima would participate in the event alongside other dignitaries gathered to witness the official inauguration of the Beninese leader.
Nkwocha also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Benin, noting that both countries maintain strong historical, socio-cultural, and economic connections.
According to him, bilateral relations between the neighbouring nations are often shaped by cooperation in areas such as border security, trade activities, and energy partnerships.
The presidential aide further stated that the vice president travelled with senior aides and top government officials as part of Nigeria’s delegation to the event.
He added that Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his official engagements in the Republic of Benin.
The trip underscores Nigeria’s continued diplomatic engagement with neighbouring West African countries and its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation within the sub-region.
