From ONYEKACHUKWU MELUWA, Port Harcourt
Barely two weeks after the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the political crisis rocking Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Dr Dagogo Wokoma as the new Secretary to the State Government, SSG.
Wokoma takes over from Dr Benibo Anabraba, who was appointed shortly after the governor resumed duties, following the emergency period in the state.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Onwuka Nzeshi disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt.
According to the statement, Fubara also appointed Sunny Ewule as his Chief of Staff, replacing his longtime political ally and former factional speaker, Edison Ehi, with both appointments taking immediate effect.
“The new appointees will be sworn in at 2pm today, Thursday, February 26. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt,” the statement said.
Ehi had played a prominent role during the early stages of the political crisis that engulfed the state in 2023.
As majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly at the inception of the Fubara administration, he reportedly refused to move a motion for the governor’s impeachment when tensions first escalated.
Ehi subsequently led a four-member faction of the Assembly and declared the seats of 27 lawmakers vacant over alleged defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
However, following the initial intervention by President Tinubu in the dispute between former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara, Ehi resigned from the Assembly and was later appointed chief of staff.
Yesterday’s reshuffle signals a fresh phase in the evolving political landscape of Rivers State, as observers continue to monitor developments in the aftermath of the presidential intervention.
