Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu has called on Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan to strengthen faith, promote unity and recommit to national renewal, describing the period as a sacred time for reflection and service to humanity.
In a Ramadan message to the Muslim Ummah in Kogi State and across Nigeria, Aliyu who is also the Zinariyan Lokoja, urged the faithful to embrace compassion, justice and humility as the country continues its journey of recovery and collective rebuilding.
She said the spiritual discipline of Ramadan should go beyond fasting and prayers to include kindness, patience and peaceful coexistence, noting that these values remain essential to national cohesion and progress.
According to her, “Ramadan is a sacred season of reflection, self-restraint, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal, a divine invitation to return to the enduring values of Islam: compassion, justice, humility, and service to humanity.”
“This holy month reminds us that faith is not only expressed through fasting and prayers, but also through kindness, patience, and how we treat one another,” she added
Aliyu described Kogi State as a symbol of unity and resilience, urging residents to protect its tradition of harmonious coexistence by prioritising the common good above personal or sectional interests.
She said, “I urge the Muslim faithful to devote this sacred period to sincere prayers for our state and our nation: prayers for wisdom and guidance for leaders, strength and provision for families, and peace and security in every community.”
Aliyu expressed hope that the Ramadan season would inspire forgiveness, generosity and dialogue, while praying for healing, stability and renewed hope for both Kogi State and Nigeria, and wishing Muslims a peaceful and spiritually rewarding fast.
