The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has announced the commencement of its Single Account Automation Policy, with effect from January 1, 2026, banning all forms of cash revenue collection across the council.
The AMAC Chairman, Mr. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, said the policy was introduced to address longstanding weaknesses in the council’s revenue system, including leakages, double taxation, and the activities of unauthorised middlemen, which he noted had hampered effective service delivery.
According to him, all payments for council revenues must now be made through the official
Smart Tax payment platform, stressing that no AMAC official is authorised to collect cash or receive payments into private bank accounts.
He warned residents and business owners to disregard any individual or platform claiming to represent the council outside the approved system.
To ensure compliance, Maikalangu disclosed that a special revenue monitoring task force and environmental cadets would be inaugurated in early 2026 to work alongside security agencies in enforcing the policy.
He said defaulters or individuals attempting to bypass the automated system would be apprehended and prosecuted.
The chairman urged taxpayers to always generate and keep their electronic receipts after payment, noting that the automation would enhance transparency, boost internally generated revenue, and enable the council to expand investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure across its communities.
