FROM ONYEKACHUKWU MELUWA, Yenagoa
Three persons died in a fatal accident involving a truck, a moving vehicle and a tricycle at Okaka axis of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The incident occurred at the Sani Abacha area of Okaka when a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into a vehicle and a tricycle, killing three people and injuring several others.
Residents who witnessed the crash told newsmen that the timber-laden truck suddenly veered off its lane before colliding with the smaller vehicles.
The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle and the tricycle, leading to immediate fatalities.
Some passers-by rushed the injured victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of those who died were evacuated from the scene.
Traffic along the busy expressway was temporarily disrupted, as emergency responders worked to clear the wreckage and restore movement.
Security personnel and traffic officers cordoned off parts of the road to prevent further incidents while rescue operations were ongoing.
Locals described the accident as “shocking,” noting that Okaka axis is known for heavy truck traffic.
Some residents called on the relevant authorities to enforce stricter safety measures for heavy-duty vehicles plying the route.
