President Bola Tinubu has transmitted the Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, and Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP, (2026–2028) to the House of Representatives, advocating urgent legislative approval to guide federal budgeting for the next three years.
The MTEF/FSP documents were officially conveyed in a formal letter entitled “The Federal Government of Nigeria’s 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper,” adressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
The letter was however read during yesterday’s plenary by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
In the letter, President Tinubu informed that he had forwarded the MTEF/FSP to the House for: “kind consideration and approval” of the lawmakers, adding that the framework had already received the endorsement of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, at its meeting held on December 3.
President Tinubu explained that the 2026 federal budget would be prepared strictly based on the parameters and fiscal assumptions as contained in the approved MTEF and FSP, thereby providing a structured roadmap for government spending, as well as revenue projections.
The president thereafter appealed to the National Assembly to accord the MTEF/FSP documents speedy legislative action, even as he assured the leadership and members of the House of his highest esteem and regard.
Following the formal presentation, the Green Chamber referred the documents to its Committee on Finance for speedy legislative action and further scrutiny.
