FG  Directs Withdrawal Of Police Operatives From VIP, Approves 30,000 Recruitment

By Yahaya Umar, Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate withdrawal of police operatives attached to Very Important Persons, VIPs, across the country.

Tinubu, who gave the directive yesterday, at a high-level security meeting held in State House, Abuja, with security chiefs including the police, army, air force, and the Department of State Services in attendance said the affected personnel

be reassigned to strengthen core policing functions nationwide.

In this vein, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, will be responsible for providing armed protection to VIPs who require security escorts.

“In view of the current security challenges facing the country, boosting police presence in all communities has become urgent and necessary”, a statement quoted the President as saying.

Besides, to further reinforce manpower, Tinubu approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police operatives with a view to improving operational capability and visibility of the force.

AljazirahNigeria recalls that last week at the meeting between the US Congressmen and Nigeria delegation, it was explicitly said that the Nigerian Government should at least recruit 30,000 Police which his government had earlier promise to inject into the Police Force.
