Tinubu Orders Rescue Of 25 Kebbi Schoolgirls

President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to ensure quick rescue of 25 female students abducted when armed bandits attacked Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, emphasising that “security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice”.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, in statement, yesterday, also reiterated protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a responsibility of the State.

Tinubu, Idris added condemned the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty.

The President also expressed deep concern and solidarity with the families of the female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

“We share in their pain and firmly committed to bringing the girls home safely”, he assured.

“The Federal Government will not relent until this objective is achieved. We assure Nigerians that strengthening internal security remains a top priority.

“The federal government is recalibrating the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to more effectively prevent these attacks and respond with greater speed and precision whenever threats arise.

“Nigeria is also reinforcing cooperation with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, to secure our borders and disrupt terrorist and criminal networks.

“We urge the public to remain calm and confident”, Tinubu said. 

Following the President’s order authorities of the Nigerian Police said special operatives have been deployed to ensure the safe return of the schoolgirls 

AljazirahNigeria gathered that the attackers killed the school’s Vice Principal, identified as Mallam Hassan Makuku, before abducting the girls.

A statement issued by Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, following the attack which took place at about 4:00am, the police confirmed that 25 students were abducted by the bandits.

Abubakar, said that a combined team of additional police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes had been deployed in the area.

Those deployed, according to him were currently combing the bandits’ routes and the nearby forest, with a view to rescuing the abducted students and possibly arresting the perpetrators.

The statement partly read, “On November 17, 2025, at about 0400hrs, information received revealed that a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically, stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko district, Danko/Wasagu LGA, Kebbi State.

“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel.

“Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted 25 students from their hostel to unknown destination”.

Abubakar, who also confirmed the killing of the school’s vice principal during the attack, said “Similarly, one Hassan Makuku ‘m’ was shot dead while Ali Shehu ‘m’ sustained injury in his right hand.

“Upon receiving the unfortunate incident, a combined team of additional Police tactical units, military personnel and Vigilantes has been deployed in the area and they are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forest, with a view to rescuing the abducted students and possibly arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act”, the police spokesman said.

“In the light of the above regrettable incident, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, had reiterated the Command’s unwavering determination in safeguarding the lives and property of the residents of Kebbi State.

“He equally appealed to the members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue supporting Police operations for peace and stability to be maintained”, he added.

Meanwhile, sources say the killing of the vice principal has sparked a tense atmosphere of mourning and fear Maga, Danko district, Danko/Wasagu LGA, Kebbi State.

Many in the area are mourning the demise of Makuku who was killed by the attackers.
