Hon. George Turnah, South-South Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, and caretaker chairman of Bayelsa State PDP, has rejected reports of his expulsion from the party.
He described the purported expulsion as a “pitiful display of desperation” by political opportunists and mischief-makers within the party.
The statement was issued on Sunday through his media aide, Kelvin Loveday Egbo, who urged members of the public to disregard the announcement, allegedly made at a “social gathering in Ibadan”.
Turnah insisted that he remains a duly elected official of the PDP and a committed member, emphasizing his “unwavering commitment” to the party’s ideals.
He stressed that no national convention has been held since the 2022 congress that produced the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.
According to Turnah, the PDP constitution clearly outlines disciplinary procedures, including the requirement of a fair hearing, none of which were observed in the alleged expulsion.
“It is nothing more than a pitiful display of desperation from certain political opportunists and mischief-makers within the Party. Such claims hold no merit and can be dismissed as ‘good radiance to bad rubbish”, he said.
Turnah also used the opportunity to reaffirm his loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, describing the minister as the national leader of the PDP.
He stated that his support for Wike remains “steadfast and unshakeable”, reiterating his alignment with the party’s leadership and goals.
The Bayelsa PDP caretaker chairman warned against the circulation of misleading information, urging members and the public to focus on genuine party activities rather than unverified claims.
He concluded by emphasizing that the PDP remains a strong political platform, capable of resolving internal issues through its constitution and established procedures, and dismissed any attempt to create discord as politically motivated.
