Rev. Uma Ukpai Dies At 80 After Six Decades Of Transformative Evangelism

Renowned Nigerian preacher and spiritual leader of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away.

His family confirmed the news in a statement released on Monday, announcing that the respected evangelist died on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. They described his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life devoted to God’s service to eternal rest.

Ukpai, celebrated as a spiritual general and pioneer of modern evangelism in Nigeria, spent more than six decades spreading the gospel through powerful preaching, biblical teaching, and prophetic manifestations of faith. His ministry touched millions of lives across Nigeria and around the world, shaping destinies and nurturing spiritual growth in countless believers.

“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity. His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” his family said.

Throughout his ministry, Ukpai became renowned for his fiery crusades, transformative messages, and deep commitment to raising both spiritual and community leaders. He was a mentor to many who looked to him for guidance, wisdom, and strength in their walk of faith.

Beyond his pulpit ministry, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and compassionate mentor whose influence extended far beyond the church.

While expressing their grief, the family thanked God for his impactful life, stating that though they mourn his physical departure, they rejoice knowing that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”

They added that details of his burial rites would be announced in due course.

Ukpai’s over sixty-year ministry leaves behind a lasting legacy through churches, faith-based educational projects, and humanitarian initiatives that continue to transform lives. His life, the family emphasized, reflected the biblical truth that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
