There was a massive turnout of civil servants at the weekend, as officers on Salary Grade Levels 05 to 10 converged on TETFUND Hall, Dennis Osadebey University, Asaba, to sit for the 2025 Promotion Examination ahead of their elevation due on January 1, 2026.

The exercise, organised by the Delta State Civil Service Commission, was aimed at assessing the competence and eligibility of officers in line with the civil service promotion guidelines. Participants were drawn from various ministries, departments, and agencies across the state ministries, departments and agencies.

Officials of the commission ensured a smooth and transparent process, with adequate arrangements for seating, identification and invigilation.

Speaking after the examination, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Noble Amioku, represented by the Second Commissioner, Chief Akpufoma Pemu, commended the participants for their orderly conduct and sense of commitment to duty.

He noted that despite the ongoing renovation at the TETFUND Hall, the exercise was conducted in an organised and peaceful manner, with no incidents recorded.

Dr. Pemu also announced that the oral interview for qualified candidates would hold at the commission’s premises on Monday, October 13.

Pemu stated that the turnout today shows that our workforce is motivated and ready to grow. Promotion is not just about moving up the ranks, but  taking on greater responsibility and delivering better service to the public.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary in the commission, Mr Frederick Yoro commended the successful conduct of the examination and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to merit, fairness and professionalism in the promotion process.

He explained that the recently concluded refresher course was designed to update officers knowledge and prepare them for the test, adding that the examination served to evaluate their understanding of the course content. According to him, the oral interview would complete the three-tier process refresher, written test and oral interview — for effective and credible promotion.

Yoro  noted that officers who performed well would be promoted in line with civil service standards, while those who fell short would be given another opportunity to reattempt the process in six months.

He also expressed appreciation to the  governor for his continued support and approval of the exercise, which, he said, underscores  government’s commitment to capacity building and efficiency in the public service.

Some candidates who spoke with journalists after the examination expressed optimism about their performance and commended the commission for its transparency and professionalism.

“It was challenging but fair. The atmosphere was calm and the supervisors were professional. We appreciate the commission for organising the examination in such an orderly manner,”  one of the candidates said.
